Colocation Pricing
Data center colocation pricing follows several models:
- Fixed cost per rack and power circuits. E.g. there are typically specials for entry level racks at around $1,000 per month at major providers with a minimal amount of power.
- Larger requirements are typically sold by the amount of power provisioned, e.g. a cost per kw (kilowatt) per month, plus power utilization.
Costs and electricity pricing vary greatly by geographic location and depend on real-estate pricing and demand as well as local utility costs. Most providers will also require non-recurring costs to setup the critical space and power, as well as cross connect fees to networking/connectivity providers.
